Francisco Simosa, a 35-year-old man who lived at Sarah Johanna on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD), died after he was hit and run over by a motor lorry on Monday.

Police Headquarters reported that Simosa was standing on the parapet of the Sarah Johanna Public Road when 32-year-old Shamby Yamat was driving a motor lorry (#GYY 6047) southwards, along the eastern side of the road.

The motor lorry reportedly travelled past Simosa before stopping and reversing which led to the left side of the tray colliding with the man.

Tragically, the left rear wheel of the lorry ran over Simosa afterward.

Simosa, who has been identified as a Venezuelan national, was picked up by the police and public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition and escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, East Bank Demerara.

There, he was examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead.

His body was then escorted to the Carmen’s Funeral Home, Little Diamond East Bank Demerara for storage, pending an autopsy.

Meanwhile, police also reported that a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver but no alcohol was found in his system.

The driver, however, remains in custody assisting with further investigations.
