A pump attendant attached to the Rose Hall Sugar Estate on Tuesday confessed to killing his workmate – a sluice watchman from Canje, Berbice.

The death of 59-year-old Angraj Kumar Indrapaul called ‘Charles’ was being investigated as an alleged drowning.

His body was pulled from the pump station canal on Friday last after he was reported to have fallen over in a suspected accident while carrying out his duties.

However, in a new twist, Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Boodnarine Persaud confirmed that the pump operator who worked along with Indrapaul at the pump station on Friday has since confessed to strangling the man during an argument and throwing his body into the canal.

The pump attendant, who is also a well-known Pandit from Canefield, East Canje, was arrested following a post-mortem examination. The post-mortem revealed that Indrapaul died from strangulation.

Roshnie Indrapaul, 28, the daughter of the dead man had said that her father left home for work around 16:00hrs on Thursday last.

The following day, they received a call from an estate worker around 07:00hrs that her father was missing.

She stated that his bag and boots were at his work site. A search was subsequently launched and his body was found around 09:00hrs on Friday.
