The Mason who appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court Friday last and was charged with manslaughter committed on Vickram ‘Vick’ Seubarran – a businessman from No.2 Village, East Canje, Berbice – has now been charged with murder.

Dave Singh called ‘Boy’ made his second court appearance on Wednesday before Magistrate Renita Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court where the charge of manslaughter was withdrawn and the new charge of murder was instituted.

The charge read that between July 31 and August 01, he murdered Seubarran, 53, of Number Two Village, East Canje Berbice. He was not required to enter a plea to the charge.

During Singh’s previous appearance in Court, he was placed on $750,000 bail after his attorney Mursaline Bhaccus noted that the charge of manslaughter was a bailable offence. He also stated that his client was not at flight risk.

Additionally, the prosecutor had indicated during that proceeding that the file was incomplete and that further advice has to be sought, she requested six weeks and such was granted by the magistrate.

The accused is set to return to court on September 13 2022.

Seubarran was found with a knife plunged into his back on the floor of his kitchen by his cousin and brother.

Hours later, police arrested three persons including Singh, the prime suspect, who later confessed to committing the crime. The two other suspects were subsequently released.

A police source, close to the investigation, has since revealed that the suspect shared a close relationship with Seubarran.

Singh told police that the businessman invited him over to his house Sunday night and after spending some time, he wanted to leave but was prevented from doing so by the victim who was making sexual demands.

This resulted in a confrontation between the two men and the suspect reportedly confessed that he grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and stabbed the man in an effort to ward off his advances.

He reportedly told police that he did not intend to kill Seubarran.

Police subsequently recovered Seubarran’s cellphone at Singh’s home a day after the murder.
