Man arrested as police remove cocaine, ganja from abandoned house at Vergenoegen

A quantity of cocaine and marijuana was found and removed by police ranks from an abandoned house at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo on Thursday.

A statement from Police Headquarters noted that at about 17:00 hours several policemen, acting on intelligence, went to the two-storied wooden abandoned house where a search was conducted.

In the lower flat of the building, they met a 45-year-old man who hails from Uitvlugt New Scheme, West Coast Demerara.

A search was carried out on the premises in his presence and a large black bulky plastic bag was found which contained suspected cannabis sativa, along with another black plastic bag containing suspected cocaine.

He was told of the ranks suspicion, cautioned and admitted ownership of the narcotics.

The man was arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station along with the narcotics where cannabis and cocaine were weighed in his presence. The cannabis amounted to 3,558 grams while the cocaine amounted to 242 grams.

The cannabis and cocaine were sealed, marked and lodged while the suspect was placed into custody pending charges.
