A businessman identified as 50-year-old Kewin Nathaniel Allen of Angoy’s Avenue, Berbice died on Sunday at Blue Mountain Backdam in a freak accident.
A statement from Police Headquarters noted that Allen and his 20-year-old son operate a shop in the back dam.
At about 12:00 hrs on Sunday, both Allen and his son were in the shop eating when they heard a loud wind blowing.
Subsequently, they heard the sound of a tree breaking from the top of the hill, and Allen and his son decided to run out of the shop.
The tree fell in the direction of Allen and pinned him.
Persons in the area went to assist him but were unsuccessful.
He was subsequently taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
