Vagrants displaced as fire guts deserted Celina Resort

Six men were detained and subsequently released as police probe a fire to a building usually occupied by vagrants at the deserted Celina Resort along the Kitty seawall, Georgetown.

Police Headquarters said the incident occurred on Sunday at about 17:00hrs.

A traffic rank was on duty at the Kitty roundabout and said he observed smoke emanating from the compound of Celina Resort and saw six men running out from the compound.

Investigations revealed that the affected building is a condemned two-storied concrete structure located on the eastern side of Celina Resort which is usually occupied by vagrants.

The Guyana Fire Service was summoned and extinguished the fire.

The six men were detained, interviewed, and denied setting fire to the building and have subsequently been released as investigations continue.
