Guyana made a winning start to the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15 Championship on Saturday, defeating Windward Islands by 26 runs at the National Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.

Batting first, Guyana posted 190 all out from 48.2 overs and then restricted Windward Islands to 164 all out from 46.1 overs.

Guyana’s innings was boosted by 55 extras (45 wides, six no-balls, four byes) as the Windward Islands bowlers struggled with accuracy.

With the bat, opener Navin Boodwah topscored with 48 off 82 balls (5x4s), Shane Prince made 27 off 23 (3x4s, 1×6) and opener Razam Koobir scored 20 off 67 (1×4). Bowling for Windward Islands, Theo Edward took 4-16 and Tyler Venner 2-43.

Arun Gainda then took 3-21 and Arif Khan (2-24) and Dhanesh Persaud (2-37) offered support as Guyana dismissed Windward Islands for 164 off 46.1 overs.

Jorden Charles and Venner made a joint topscore of 33 each, while extras were 28.

In the other games on Saturday, rain stopped play with Barbados 16-1 against Trinidad and Tobago and no play was possible between Jamaica and the Leeward Islands as the pitch was not conducive for play.

Second round action will take place on Sunday with Guyana playing Barbados, Jamaica against Trinidad and Tobago and Leeward Islands up against Windward Islands.
