One of the Guyanese quartet- number-one seed Ashley Khalil, Akeila Wiltshire, Taylor Fernandes or Ashley DeGroot- will cop the Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Women’s title in Jamaica.
It will be all-Guyanese semi-finals on Monday evening from 19:15h (Guyana time).
Alex Arjoon will face defending champion Chris Binnie from 20:25h in the Men’s semi-final, and all three of the doubles teams are through to their respective final.
Fresh from her exploits at the Commonwealth Games in England, Khalil defeated Trinidad’s Maria Claire Baracent 11-4, 11-9, 11-5 in the quarter-final.
Wiltshire got the better of Barbadian Jodi Smith Padmore 11-1, 11-4, 11-7, while Fernandes eased passed the host nation’s Savannah Thompson 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 and DeGroot had the better of Bermuda’s Rachel Barnes 11-2, 11-8, 11-6.
The Women’s final is slated for Tuesday at 20:00h.
Meanwhile, Arjoon topped Shawn Simpson 11-9, 9-11, 14-12, 11-6 to set up the daunting task against the multiple-time champion Binnie.
Jason-Ray Khalil lost his quarter-final to number-two seed Khamal Cumberbatch 8-11, 4-11, 4-11.
Additionally, Guyana has qualified for all three of the doubles finals with Jason-Ray and Nryon Joseph beating Jamaicans Bruce Burrowes and Julian Morrison 2-0 (11-10, 11-7) to secure a place in Tuesday’s final from 11:20h.
The combination of DeGroot and Khalil will compete for the Women’s Doubles title against the Caymanian duo Jade Pitcairn and Michaela Rensburg from 10:00h, while Fernandes and Daniel Ince topped Trinidadians Chayse Mcquan and Claire Barcant 11-8, 11-10 to secure their spot in the final from 10:40h on Tuesday.
