The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has issued a statement confirming that the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Skyvan Aircraft carrying President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley landed safely with all passengers on board.

The statement was issued following media reports that the GDF aircraft carrying President Ali and PM Mottely “slipped off” the runway after landing at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle, East Coast Demerara on Sunday last with the President and PM onboard.

Offering clarity to the situation, GCAA noted that while turning off the main runway onto the taxiway, the aircraft’s nose gear rolled across the grass at the edge of the taxiway after which the aircraft was brought to a halt on the taxiway.

“It is important to note that the entire aircraft remained firmly positioned on the taxiway with only the nose gear slightly in the grass,” the statement noted.

GCAA said no damages were done to the aircraft and all passengers onboard disembarked safely and calmly through the normal exit before the aircraft was pushed back and proceeded its next leg of flight totally serviceable.
