The action is heating up in the Under-14 tournament

The ExxonMobil Boys and Girls Under-14 Schools football tournament continued on Wednesday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, and those matches determined the final eight male teams, who will now play for positions one to eight.

Dolphin Secondary defeated St. Winifred 8-0 on the back of a hat-trick from Jason Sandiford (14th, 39th, 48th), a brace from Tyshawn James (1st, 6th), and goals from Damani Hardy (10th), Malakai Gowan (24th), and Kellon Alleyne (36th).

An inaugural finalist in this tournament, North Ruimveldt Secondary edged New Campbelville 3-2 to also progress.

Joshua Augustine (6th), Dalon Wray (30th) and Jarel Smith (39th), led the charge for North, while Dwayne Wallace (34th, 40th) netted for Campbellville.

Among the other boys’ team to progress was Charlestown Secondary, who got the better of Freeburg 2-1; Lodge Secondary defeated East Ruimveldt 4-0; Patentia topped New Central 5-0 and Golden Grove ousted Plaisance by the same margin, while West Ruimveldt scored nine goals without a response from Westminster, and Cummings Lodge topped Tucville 3-0.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ division, East Ruimvelt and Charlestown Secondary topped their groups and progressed to the final eight.

The two eliminated teams are Lodge and Leonora Secondary, who failed to turn up for matches.

The other six to progress are New Campbellville, Dolphin, Ann’s Grove, New Central High, Tucville, and West Ruimveldt.

From this stage onwards, no other elimination would occur for both categories.
