Four arrested with smuggled chicken, alcohol and cigarettes at Mahaica
The Revenue Authority (GRA) on Thursday seized three motor vehicles laden with a large quantity of smuggled chicken at Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
At a separate location in the said village, a large quantity of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes was also seized. Four persons have been arrested as investigations continue.
The Authority continues with its’ “zero tolerance” approach against smuggling and other illegal activities, saying this allows for a level playing field for legitimate businesses and the collection of revenue.
The GRA advised that the importation of chicken restricted and the consumption of such items without proper clearance and certification from the Ministry of Health may be hazardous and detrimental to one’s health.
The GRA is encouraging persons involved in such activities to cease and desist.
