Update: ‘Missing’ fishermen found after running out of fuel
Two fishermen from Leonora, West Coast Demerara who were missing for over 24 hours have been found safe.
The News Room understands that Roopchand and Alian Mendonca were working at sea when their boat ran out of fuel.
A family friend, Peter Thakoor confirmed that the men were found on Friday morning and taken to Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
The men left the Leonora Koker for sea on Tuesday afternoon and were expected back Wednesday morning. After hours passed and they did not return, relatives started to worry.
On Thursday morning, Thakoor said he gathered a few boats and went in search of the men. A report was later made at the Leonora Police Station and the coastguard was deployed to help search for the men.
