Regional U-19: Dindyal cracks 138 in drawn contest

Mavendra Dindyal scored a sublime 138 for Guyana in their drawn contest with Jamaica in the Regional Under-19 Three-Day tournament, which concluded on Saturday in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Playing at Park Hill, the West Indies Youth player led Guyana’s response to Jamaica’s first innings total of 294 all out by driving Guyana to 300-8 declared from 89 overs.

Dindyal faced 261 balls and struck 15 fours and two maximums, and shared a vital 128-run stand with Shamar Yearwood.

Yearwood made 69 (4x4s; 3x6s) from 107 balls and the duo steadied the ship after both the in-form Rampertab Ramnauth and Tomani Caesar were dismissed without scoring.

Isai Thorne with a rapid 46 and Alvin Mohabir (15) were the two men to reach a double figure score.

Reon Edwards took 3-56, while Sherwayne Thomas had 2-49.

In Jamaica’s first innings, Justin Beckford made 83 and Jordan Johnson got 48 along with lower-order contributions that got them their eventual total.

The pacey Thorne bagged 3-59, while spinners Jeremy Sandia and Jonathan Rampersaud took 2-47 and 2-67 respectively.

The Berbican spinners then shared seven wickets to limit Jamaica to 171-8 in 48.3 overs in their second innings.

Sandia had 4-52, while Rampersaud took 3-3. Justin Beckford top-scored yet again with 39 and Adrian Weir had 32.

Guyana drew two matches and lost one at this year’s tournament.
