The first matches of the 2022 Concacaf Men’s Under-17 Championship Qualifiers took place on Tuesday at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida where Bonaire stunned Guyana.

Bonaire managed to rally from a 2-1 second-half deficit to top Guyana 4-2. Gerry Burnette (40’) gave Guyana a 1-0 lead, but then 11 minutes later had an own goal to make it 1-1.

The Golden Jaguars were back ahead 2-1 through Matrim Martin (52’), only for Bonaire to respond with three straight goals from Mervin Dishmey (58’), Freadyen Michiel (70’) and Rhiordan Piar (88’).

Guyana will be in action again on Thursday at 11:00h against The Bahamas.

The boys then face St. Martin (3 September), the British Virgin Islands (5 September), and Bermuda (7 September) in Florida to decide who will progress to the championship stages.

The winners of each of the four qualification groups will join the 16 top-ranked nations in the region to compete for the confederation’s title in 2023.

The Concacaf finals will take place in Guatemala in February 2023, with the four semi-finalists progressing to the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2023.
