Suspect in fatal Berbice River chopping arrested

Police detectives in Corentyne, Berbice in collaboration with ranks from Linden, Region Ten have arrested the suspect wanted for allegedly chopping a man to death and injuring his cousin.

Regional Commander Boodnarine Persaud told the News Room that police received information that the suspect was making his way out the Berbice River.

He said while ranks were heading up the river, they caught the suspect on a boat.

Dead is Selmon King of Wairuni, Berbice River.

He along with his cousin, 18-year-old Shane Osborne were attacked by the suspect with a cutlass earlier this week.

Shane’s hand was severed from the wrist during the brutal attack.

Vanwest Osborne, Shane’s father had disclosed that based on the information provided to him, the suspect and another man had an argument over a cutlass at a drinking spot in Kimbia, Berbice River when Shane intervened and was chopped.

“He chop my son and he chop my cousin,” the elder Osborne said.

It was Shane’s screams that King heard and rushed to his assistance but instead, the suspect attacked him and killed him in the process.

Police in Region 10 are handling the matter.
