Caretaker pleads guilty to cocaine trafficking

A 54-year-old caretaker on Friday pleaded guilty to trafficking cocaine when he appeared before Senior City Magistrate Leron Daly.

Lawrence Gittens of Croal Street, Georgetown admitted to having eight grams of cocaine in his possession on September 1, 2022, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris told the court that on the day in question, police on mobile patrol observed Gittens acting in a “suspicious” manner while at the corner of Hadfield Street.

The ranks intercepted Gittens and searched his possession.

The cocaine was found concealed in a container which was in Gittens’ left side pants pocket.

The Magistrate fined Gittens $100,000. If he is unable to pay this sum, Gittens will have to serve a default sentence of one year.
