A 30-year-old labourer was on Friday remanded to prison for breaking into a man’s home and carting off his television.

Fazie Denzil Smith appeared before City Magistrate Leron Daly and denied the charge.

Particulars of the offence alleged that Smith on August 19, at Tucville, Georgetown, broke and entered the dwelling house of Compton Haynes and stole a Samsung Smart television valued at $47,000.

Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris objected to Smith being released on bail.

He told the court that Smith, after allegedly committing the crime, escaped to the interior and was recently arrested by police.

The Magistrate remanded Smith to prison until October 14.

According to reports, Smith and Haynes are known to each other for over 20 years.

On the day in question, Haynes secured his home and went to work leaving everything intact.

He later returned home and found his television missing.

After raising an alarm, persons in the area informed Haynes that Smith was seen jumping his fence with a television.

It is alleged that when Smith was arrested by police, he claimed to sold the television to another man.
