Guyanese Kumar Joseph produced with bat and ball alongside Akshay Homraj to lead their side, Commonwealth Cricket Club, to victory over NJ Rebel Cricket Club in the Golden State Cricket League at Cedar Brook Park.

Homraj, a former Guyana Youth cricketer, and now senior USA player, smashed four fours and six sixes in his 56 from 23 balls, opening the batting but it was Joseph’s middle-order fireworks that stole the show in the T20 contest.

Joseph, a former Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club player, cracked an unbeaten 71 (3x4s;5x6s) from 40 balls while David Walton (42 (3x4s;2x6s) from 34 balls) got Commonwealth up to a massive 213-5.

Devendra Parboo chipped in with ten as Rebel leaked 31 in extras.

Devendra Narine led the way for Rebel with 1-24 from his quota of four overs but the other wicket takers, Brandon Lachhah (1-36) and Amit Seenarine (1-40) were a bit expensive.

A team effort, led by Joseph with 2-28 from fours, restricted Rebels to 161-8 from their 20 overs.

Parboo accounted for1-22 while Hebert Erskin (1-30) and Winston Gomes (1-37) were also among the wickets.

Only three of Rebels’ batsmen got to double figures and it was Ryan Persaud with 43-ball 70 (9x4s;2x6s) which led the fightback.

Seenarine made 36 from 26 balls and Hukumchand Bookai had a run-a-ball 17.
