Driver in fatal hit and run accident arrested

The Driver in the fatal hit-and-run accident along the Blankenburg Public Road, West Coast Demerara which left 42-year-old Azaad Khan dead has been arrested.

He was identified as 28-year-old Vickey Balgobin of Area G De Willem, West Coast Demerara.

Police have also taken into found the vehicle Balgobin was driving on Saturday at about 19:45 hrs.

According to reports, Balgobin admitted that he was the vehicle’s driver and explained that he fled the scene because he panicked.

According to a statement from Police Headquarters, the car was proceeding west at a fast rate along the Blankenburg Public Road and collided with Khan who was crossing the road at the time.

As a result of the collision, he suffered a severed left leg and landed in a yard four houses away.

Community Police picked up the motionless body of the pedestrian which was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen, examined and pronounced dead by the Dr. A. Dhaniram.

The man’s body was also positively indentifed by his relatives. The body was then transferred to Ezekiel Mortuary for storage where it is also awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
