Pedestrian, 42, killed in ‘hit-and-run’ accident at Blankenburg

A ‘hit and run’ accident along the Blankenburg Public Road, West Coast Demerara has left 42-year-old Azaad Khan dead.

Police said the accident involved a black Allion motor car (registration number unknown) which occurred on Saturday at about 19:45 hrs.

According to a statement from Police Headquarters, the car was proceeding west at a fast rate of speed along the Blankenburg Public Road and collided with Khan who was crossing the road at the time.

As a result of the collision, he suffered a severed left leg landed in a yard four houses away.

The motionless body of the pedestrian was picked up by Community Police ranks and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen, examined and pronounced dead by the Dr. A. Dhaniram.

The man’s body was also positively indentifed by his relatives. The body was then transferred to Ezekiel Mortuary for storage where it is also awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.

The accident scene was visited by a party of policemen as further investigations continue.
