The finalists of the Men’s and Women’s categories of the Lucozade Indoor Hockey tournament have been confirmed, following intense semi-final action on Wednesday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The Women’s semi-finals were played first with GBTI GCC Spartans and Woodpecker Hikers emerging victorious.
GBTI GCC Spartans emerged with a 6-3 win over YMCA Old Fort in the opening game of the night. GBTI GCC Tigers and Woodpeckers Hikers then played to a 1-1 draw, forcing the game to penalties to decide a winner.
At the shootout, it was Hikers who were the most successful with Rene James, Latacia Chung and Maria Munroe converting, while Sonia Jardine was the lone player to convert for GBTI GCC Tigers.
On the male side, Bounty GCC and YMCA Old Fort advanced to the final, following two high-scoring matches.
Bounty GCC pipped Pepsi Hikers 6-5, while YMCA Old Fort edged Hikers Cadets 4-3.
The tournament will wrap up on Friday evening with the four category finals, the first of which will be played at 17:00h.
Saints Conquerors and GCC Spartans will open play in the Girls Under-20 final, followed by Saints S7N up against YMCA Old Fort in the Boys Under-20 championship game from 18:00h.
The Women’s final between GBTI GCC Spartans and Woodpecker Hikers will commence at 19:00h, followed by the Men’s final between Bounty GCC and YMCA Old Fort from 20:00h.
