Rotary Club of Garden City launches ‘Little Free Community Library’ in Mahaica

The Rotary Club of Garden City (Georgetown) launched its first ‘Little Free Community Library’ on recently to commemorate International Literacy Day, which was observed on September 8.

The library, which is located in the compound of Cheshire Home, is aimed at serving the Mahaica community.

The concept is to take a book, and leave a book, the Rotary Club of Garden City said. However, persons can still borrow a book and return it, if they have no book to exchange.

“Members of the community are encouraged to utilise it, as the library contains books for all ages. Literacy kits were also distributed to children in the community,” the Rotary Club of Garden City said in a press release.

“Basic Education and Literacy is one of the areas of focus of Rotary International and is the theme for the month of September. This community library is our demonstration of creating a community wide network of readers.”
