Labourer dies after tyre explodes in face
Police are investigating a freak accident that left a man dead after a tyre exploded in his face.
The incident occurred at about 14:30 hrs at Evelyn Landing, Corentyne River on September 9, 2022.
Dead is Urick Henry, 17, of Evelyn Landing, Corentyne river.
Eyewitness Hemant Kumar Deonarine, 43, worked at the same logging concession at Evelyn Landing.
When the incident took place, Deonarine said he was approximately 40 feet away from Henry, who was airing up a skidder type. He was using an air compressor from a motor lorry, when the tyre exploded. As a result, Henry was flung approximately 15 ft into the air before falling to the ground.
He appeared to be lifeless with extensive injuries to his face, right hand and blood oozing from his mouth.
Henry was transported to Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is presently at the Anthony’s Funeral Parlour at Dingwall Village, Corentyne, Berbice awaiting a post mortem examination.
