President declares Sept. 19 day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has declared September 19, 2022 a national day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II in sympathy and solidarity with the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms.

A proclamation reflecting this was signed on Tuesday by President Ali.

With this day of mourning declared, the President has called on all authorities, boards, Commissions, corporations, public agencies, ministries and citizens to fly Guyana’s Golden Arrowhead at half-mast.

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest- serving Monarch, died last Thursday. She was 96 years old and reigned for 70 years.

The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.
