A 24-year-old employed man of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) was nabbed on Wednesday with 2.8 pounds (or 1246 grams) of marijuana.

Police Headquarters stated that officers patrolling in Crabwood Creek observed a man standing on a street. When the man saw the officers, however, he reportedly started running away.

While running, it was noted that he pulled out a bulky blue plastic bag from his pants crotch and held it in his hand.

An officer chased after him, eventually catching him. When caught, the man reportedly threw the blue plastic bag on a dam.

The officer and the suspect then went onto the dam to retrieve the blue plastic bag. When it was opened, the officer observed that it contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The suspect was told of the offence committed, cautioned and arrested and escorted to Springlands police station, along with the suspected cannabis.

At the station the suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and it amounted to 1246 grams. It was then placed into an evidence bag, marked, sealed and lodged.

The suspect was placed in custody assisting with the investigation.
