Two men – Winston Moriah, 21, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam and 21-year-old Keion Clarke of Budhan Housing Scheme, West Canje Berbice – were charged with Possession of a Firearm Without Licence when they appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The duo, who are both labourers, made their appearance before Magistrate Renita Singh. They both pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them.
Moriah was remanded to prison while Clarke was placed on $100,000 bail. The matter was postponed until October 26.
Meanwhile, Clarke was also charged separately with possession of narcotic for the purpose of trafficking.
According to Police Headquarters, Clarke was arrested on Monday last with 48.7 grams of marijuana.
He pleaded guilty to this charge and was sentenced to four months imprisonment.
