The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has written to the Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken, requesting that he launches a campaign against noise nuisance.

The Office of the DPP, in a press release on Friday, reminded that noise nuisance is a criminal offence in accordance with Section 174 A of the Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act Chapter 8:02.

In these regards, the DPP is urging persons affected by noise nuisance to report it to the nearest police station and if this bears no fruit, they can report the matter to the office of the DPP at Eve Leary, Kingston, Georgetown.

“lf affected persons do not get a satisfactory result at the police station, they are free to file a complaint with the DPP’s Office,” the DPP stated.

Thus far, the DPP has received a complaint and signed petition from residents of Enmore, East Coast Demerara on August 30, 2022, in protest of loud music being played in their area.

Signatories to the petition are being asked to visit the DPP’s Chambers at Eve Learly, Georgetown for statements to be taken from them during the normal working hours 9:00hrs to 15:00hrs from Monday to Friday.
