An Essequibo man was on Wednesday caught trying to smuggle six finches which he had concealed in hair rollers, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) reported.
Dhanraj Deochand, of Perseverance, Essequibo was arrested after it was discovered that he checked in a luggage for another person, Unique Sunshine London. London was also arrested.
CANU in a statement said the man was intercepted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport while CANU officers were investigating London’s matter.
The man was a passenger destined for the United States of America (USA). CANU said he was caught attempting to smuggle six finches concealed in hair rollers.
CANU said the investigations are in progress.
CANU wishes to remind the public that the trafficking of narcotics is illegal and care should be taken in examining packages when asked by others to transport them.
