Miner arrested after ganja, cocaine found in milk tin

A 62-year-old gold miner was arrested on Friday with 948 grams of marijuana and 55 grams of cocaine found in a milk tin during a police intel operation at Bartica Stelling in Region Seven.

Police Headquarters reported that the miner of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, was one of 13 passengers onboard a speedboat.

The operation was conducted at about 13:20 hrs today on Friday.

“The miner had in his possession a white salt bag which was checked by a rank. Inside the bag were a quantity of groceries which include a five pound “Fernleaf milk” tin. Further searches were conducted in the milk tin and the rank found four compressed bulky transparent parcels all containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis,” the police stated.

Another transparent bulky parcel with a “whitish rocklike substance” suspected to be cocaine was also found.
Police said the miner admitted ownership of the narcotics.

The miner is presently in custody at the Bartica Police Station pending charges.
