A 36-year-old female cook of the Yarrowkabra village on the Soesdyke/ Linden highway was nabbed at the Bartica stelling in Region Seven with a compressed parcel of cannabis in her travelling bag.

Police Headquarters reported that at about 08:20hrs on Friday, officers from the Bartica police station went to the stelling where an inbound speed boat was being moored.

When the 10 passengers disembarked, they were instructed to hold their respective items including their luggage. Soon after, they were escorted to the station where each person was searched, including the cook.

Police reported that a compressed bulky plastic parcel containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was found in her travelling bag.

The woman denied ownership of the cannabis, instead relating that she was keeping the bag for a friend.

Nevertheless, the narcotic was weighed in her presence and amounted to 353 grams (or about 0.7 pounds).

It was then placed into a transparent, self-sealing evidence bag, sealed with manufactured seal, marked and lodged with the station’s sergeant.

The suspect is presently in custody at Bartica police station pending charges.
