Woman busted at CJIA with cocaine in biscuit wrappers remanded

Unique Sunshine London, who was nabbed while attempting to smuggle cocaine through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, was on Friday remanded to prison.

London, 59, of Haslington, East Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond/Grove Magistrates’ Court.

The woman pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 14, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport , she had 11.188 kilogrammes of cocaine in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Magistrate Scare remanded London to prison until November, 11, 2022.

London was arrested by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks on Wednesday at the airport with a quantity of cocaine concealed in biscuit wrappers in her carry-on luggage.

At the time she was an outgoing passenger destined for the United States of America.

According to a statement from CANU, the cocaine would have been worth $12.3 million but once landed in the United States, the street value would have been US$336,000.
