Man, 60, among three charged for possession of marijuana

Sixty-year-old Roger Simon also called ‘Goat Man’ was on Monday charged and released on $100,000 bail after being found with 24 grams of cannabis on Sunday.

Simon of Second Avenue Bartica, Essequibo River appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty.

Meanwhile, Kean Cort, a 36-year-old female cook of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway was also granted $300,000 bail on Monday when she appeared before Magistrate Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for the same offence.

Police reported that Cort also pleaded not guilty.

Simon and Cort cases were both adjourned to Friday October 21, 2022.

Lionel Mohamed, a 62-year-old resident of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara also appeared before Magistrate Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He was charged with two counts of the same offence.

Mohamed was arrested with 948 grams of cannabis and 55 grams of cocaine on Friday last, police said in a press release on Monday.

According to the release, Mohamed pleaded not guilty to both charges and was remanded to prison until Wednesday, October 12, 2022 for statements.
