A 24-year-old gold miner is dead after he was pinned by a fallen tree on Saturday last at Gold Finger Landing along the Cuyuni River.
Dead is Troy Prudencio of Lethem, Region Nine.
Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 13:22hrs.
Reports are that Prudencio and two other miners were in a camp cooking when they experienced “several gusts of heavy winds and subsequently they heard the sound of a tree falling.”
While attempting to escape to safety, Prudencio was pinned.
Police said the other two miners immediately removed the tree but it was too late.
Troy was taken to the Aurora Gold Mine where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the body had multiple injuries.
