The body of Bartica Businessman Randy Adams was fished out of the Essequibo River on Monday by ranks of the Guyana Police Force, two days after a boat mishap in the vicinity of Calf Island.

The other missing man has been identified as Alvin Leitch called ‘Spanish Boss’ of Charlestown, Georgetown.

Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent, Dion Moore told the News Room that Adams’ body was recovered while the search continues for Leitch.

The boat incident occurred between 18:45hrs and 19:00hrs on Saturday.

The vessel had 10 passengers onboard along with the captain, 34-year-old Jermin Blackman and his 18-year-old bowman, Lamuel Allen, both of Bartica in Region Seven.

Blackman told police that the 10 passengers including popular entertainer Darrel Romeo called ‘Magnum’ left the Parika Stelling en route to Bartica.

During the journey, Blackman said the vessel was punctured while navigating a damaged Beacon. It immediately began to sink.

The captain said he attempted to sail to shore but the vessel sunk before reaching safety.

Passengers began swimming to the shore and upon checking, Adams and Leitch were unaccounted for. It is unclear at this stage whether all the passengers were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
