Taxi driver remanded for colleague’s murder

A 28-year-old taxi driver was charged for the murder of his colleague, Quincy Weekes on Monday.

Troy Griffith, of Mocha, East Bank Demerara made his appearance at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court before Principal Magistrate Sunil Scarce. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

Hence bail was refused and he was remanded to prison until, November 18, 2022 for report and statements.

Weekes, 41, called “Baloo” also of Mocha was stabbed to death on September 14. Police had reported that Griffith and Weekes had an old grievance over $500.

On the day in question, they had an argument over parking space when Weekes was stabbed. He was stabbed four times; twice to his hands, left shoulder and lower left chest.

Both Weekes and Griffith operated taxis at the head of the Mocha Public Road.

The News Room understands that Weekes, a father of one, was also expecting his second child.
