Two subordinate police officers are among several who are in police custody in relation to the ongoing probe of the theft of $400 million worth of raw gold.

The gold was stolen from a businesswoman sometime between December 2021 and January 2022, Police Headquarters reported, but months later, the police are now releasing a few details about this massive gold heist.

“Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum has confirmed that the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters is conducting a probe in relation to the theft of raw gold amounting to $400,000,000,” Police Headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

Importantly, it was revealed that investigators were able to recover 3 motor vehicles (2 cars and 1 canter) used in the robbery as well as a quantity of raw gold.

“Two subordinate officers stationed in Berbice are also in police custody assisting with the investigation,” Police said.

There are also reports that two suspects have since been charged in connection with the robbery.

No further details were provided by the police.
