First-time offender jailed for 33 months, fined $3.5M after caught with over 8lbs ganja
A 29-year-old resident of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Andrew Sealey was Friday sentenced to two years nine months imprisonment and a fined of $3.5million, days after he was caught with over eight pounds of marijuana.
He appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Renita Singh.
The Magistrate stated that she is exercising her discretion in imposing a lesser sentence because he is a first-time offender.
Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) last Wednesday arrested Sealy and said the marijuana has a street value of $3.5 million.
He was found with the marijuana in his bag. CANU, in a statement, said the illegal drug was concealed in five black plastic bags.
CANU reminds the general public to be aware of illegal activities occurring in and around their communities and not be hesitant to report it to law enforcement.
