Overseas-based Guyanese struck down on High Street

A 53-year-old overseas-based Guyanese man died on Thursday night after he was struck down by a minibus at High and Princess Streets, Georgetown.
Dead is 53-year-old Veda Prakash Faudar. He lived in Canada and was on vacation.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said minibus BAB 6045, being driven by William Scott, a 30-year-old man of Supply, East Bank Demerara, was proceeding south along the western driving lane of High Street at about 40 to 45 kmph.
Scott told police investigators that as he approached the intersection of Princess and High Street, he observed two pedestrians standing on the eastern side of High Street facing west. He claimed that Faudar suddenly attempted to cross the road and walked into the path of the minibus, resulting in the front left-side of the minibus colliding with him.
The ambulance service was summoned and a doctor who arrived on the scene pronounced Faudar dead.
The Police are investigating the case and a notice of intended prosecution served on Scott.
Faudar’s body is presently lying at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.
