Traffic ranks in Region Five are investigating an accident that occurred along the Cotton Tree Public Road early on Saturday which left one man dead.
The dead man has been identified as Salim Yusuf, 30, of lot 40 Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice.
The News Room was informed that the accident occurred at approximately 04:00hrs on Staurday.
His sister-in-law Jaswantie Rajkumaj disclosed that Yusuf had left home minutes earlier in his car and was on his way to make a pickup. He was attached to a taxi service in the community but it wasn’t long after that Rajkumar said they got a call informing them that Yusuf had been involved in a terrible accident.
“We run and go out and we see the car and we see him and he neck bruk when I see him.” Rajkumar said
Based on the information the family received, a car travelling in the opposite direction clipped the front of his car along the Cotton Tree turn. Yusuf’s car reportedly flipped several times before coming to a complete halt.
Both the driver of the other car and Yusuf were rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where Yusuf was pronounced dead and the other driver was admitted.
An investigation is underway.
