Colin Bynoe, a 33-year-old teacher of Kildonan Village, Corentyne, Berbice is identified by the police as the driver of the second vehicle (#PYY 3603) in the fatal accident at D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice Saturday morning.
He is currently in custody assisting with information.
Taxi driver, 30-year-old Salim Yusuf of Bennett Dam, D’Edward Village lost his life.
Police said Yusuf was proceeding west along the southern drive lane while Bynoe was proceeding east along the northern drive lane at a fast rate.
Bynoe reportedly lost control and collided with the right side of Yusuf’s car.
“As a result of the collision both vehicles received extensive damage. The driver of motor vehicle #PTT 9357 (Salim Yusuf) received injuries about his body and he was taken out from his car in an unconscious condition by public spirited citizens and conveyed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced him dead on arrival,” the police statement added.
The body was taken to Anthony’s Funeral Home where it is awaiting a Post Mortem examination.
The accident scene was visited at 4:50 hrs by police ranks.
The area was also canvassed for CCTV footage and video was retrieved by the ranks.
