Linden businessman, 53, shot after argument
Nigel Sumersal, a 53-year-old businessman of Wismar Housing Scheme in Linden in Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice) was shot several times about his body on Friday, hours after he was involved in an argument with another man.
Police Headquarters reported that the men had a misunderstanding at about 19:00hrs on Friday. The other man, who is the suspected shooter, left after the argument while the businessman remained at his shop.
At about 21:00hrs, however, Sumersal reportedly heard several loud explosions believed to be gunshots. When he investigated, he saw the suspect on the street a short distance away armed with a handgun, pointing in his direction.
The businessman said that soon after, he felt as though something struck him and he experienced a burning sensation about his body.
The man, who was shot once to his abdomen and three times to his right hand, was escorted to the Mackenzie Hospital Complex in Linden, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Police reported that he is presently at the hospital in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, two warheads and two suspected 9MM spent shells were recovered at the scene by police detectives.
Police are searching for the suspect as investigations continue.
