Security guard charged with bullying women via fake Facebook account

Pauleen Mohabir, a 49-year security guard, was on Wednesday released on $140,000 bail on charges that he created fake Facebook accounts and to harrass two women.

Mohabir, of Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Particulars of the two charges alleged that Mohabir during 2021 and 2022 used a computer system to publish electronic data of Darlene Hawker and Shonella Anderson on Facebook with intent to humiliate, harass or cause substantial emotional distress to them.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on $70,000 bail for each count. The matter was adjourned until October 11.

According to reports, the victims and the accused are known to each other but are not on speaking terms.

In the year 2021, Mohabir allegedly created a Facebook profile using Anderson’s name and photographs.

Mohabir reportedly used the fake account to harass Hawker and her family.

She reportedly sent a string of inappropriate messages to Hawker and even went as far as inviting her out on a date.

The defendant then created another fake account and began harassing Anderson. On one occasion,
Mohabir made a fake post announcing the death of Anderson.

The matter was reported to the police station, and Mohabir was arrested.

Her cell phone was searched and investigators found the fake accounts. Under caution, Mohabir allegedly confessed to creating the accounts to harass the two women.
