Twelve-year-old Devi Persaud also known as Ashley of Singh Street, Wales, West Bank Demerara, who was reported missing on Wednesday, was found at a home in Corentyne, Berbice Thursday morning.
According to Police Headquarters, acting on information received, Police in Regional Division Six conducted a search at a house in Whim Village, Corentyne at approximately 00:50hrs and found the girl.
The occupants of the home – a father, mother and their teenage son – were all taken into custody at the Whim Police Station where they are assisting with the investigations.
Persaud was missing since she left her 74-year-old grandmother’s home, where she lived, at around 10:00hrs on Monday morning. Her destination was her aunt’s Aklema Ali home, some four minutes away, but the girl never showed up.
Ali also shared that the girl’s father lives in Enmore and she indicated she wanted to visit her father on Monday but the father dissuaded her from doing so.
Persaud’s aunt said that it is unlike her to wander off and further explained that Devi was waiting to enter her new school after being placed at Patentia Secondary after the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) exams.
