Self-confessed triggerman gets life sentence for killing ‘Saga’

Aubrey Bobb, the self-confessed triggerman behind the fatal shooting of popular D’Urban Street, Georgetown businessman Godfrey Scipio called ‘Saga’,  was on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment.

The sentence was handed down at the Demerara High Court by Justice Jo-Ann Barlow, who ordered that Bobb be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 30 years.

Earlier this month, Bobb was arraigned for the capital offence of murder and admitted to killing the 64-year-old businessman on October 12, 2017, at Kitty, Georgetown.

He was represented by attorney Teriq Mohammed while the state was represented by prosecutors Latifiah Elliot, Marisa Edwards and Simran Gajraj.

Scipio was shot once just after being attacked and robbed by Bobb outside of a Kitty hotel.

He was reportedly leaving the hotel in the company of a female friend and was about to enter his car which was parked in front of the building when he was accosted by Bobb, who was armed with a gun.

According to previous reports, police managed to arrest Bobb a day after reviewing the CCTV footage attached to the Kitty hotel.

Bobb had allegedly confessed that former Police Corporal Derwin Eastman had supplied him with the gun to carry out the hit.

Eastman is currently on remand for Scipio’s murder and is awaiting trial at the High Court.
