Enmore businessman caught with contraband items after breaching roadblock

A businessman of Logwood, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was arrested after he was caught with a vanload of contraband items.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the man was intercepted at Logwood, Enmore, after he drove away from a roadblock in the vicinity of Unity Junction, East Coast Demerara, on Wednesday.

Police said the 31-year-old man was driving a white and silver motor van (GLL 987) when he breached the road block and drove off at a fast rate of speed at around 16:45hrs.

As a result, ranks gave chase and the van was intercepted at Logwood, Enmore, where a search was conducted in the presence of the businessman.

“A quantity of uncustom goods in black plastic bags were found inside the van,” Police stated.

The items seized were 11 boxes of Zenden brand mosquito coil containing 660 packs; three boxes of Atlanta cigarettes containing 150 cartons; and two boxes of Red Oris cigarettes containing 100 cartons.

In addition, the police said the documents for the motor van were produced, however, all were expired. The man also had a valid driver’s license, but only for motor car.

“The businessman and the van along with the uncustomed goods were escorted to the Enmore Police Station where the items were lodged and the businessman was placed in custody. The Guyana Revenue Authority was also informed,” Police concluded.
