Trio caught with 40 grams of cannabis at Adventure

Three men, aged 19, 30 and 39, are now in police custody after being found with 40 grams of cannabis within their proximity.

The Guyana Police Force on Thursday said the men were arrested around 22:30hrs on Wednesday at Adventure Back Street on the Essequibo Coast.

The arrest was made after police ranks on anti-crime patrol headed by a subordinate officer and other ranks of the Anna Regina Police Station found a bag containing 40 grammes of marijuana near the trio.

The men, upon seeing the police, attempted to move from the area, but were intercepted under a house.

The ranks conducted a search on the men, but nothing incriminating was found, police said.

However, when the ranks conducted a search of the area where the men were seated, they found a transparent plastic bag which, when opened, contained 36 smaller plastic bags with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana.

The three men were all cautioned separately and informed of the offence after which they were arrested and taken to the Anna Regina Police Station where the marijuana was weighed in their presence and amounted to 40 grams.

They all denied the offence and were placed into custody as investigations continue.
