More opportunities have been promised for Guyanese with international transport and logistics company Blue Water Shipping officially launching its local branch here in Guyana.

Founded in 1972, Blue Water Shipping is a global provider of all logistics services in modern supply chain management with over 60 offices worldwide. In February this year, Blue Water Shipping acquired Guyana-owned and operated Falcon Logistics Inc under a structure whereby Blue Water Guyana Ltd will remain majority Guyanese-owned, maintaining full compliance with local content law.

Speaking at the official launching of the company at the Marriott Hotel, Georgetown on Thursday evening, Thomas Bek, Chief Operating Officer (Energy, Ports and Projects) at Blue Water, said the company will create opportunities for Guyanese.

“This newly formed Guyanese company not only complies with the full spirit of Guyana’s local content legislation but creates an abundance of opportunities for local Guyanese people within this industry,” Bek said.

In August, the first two Guyanese were selected to join a two-year Blue Water Shipping Management Training Programme which combines studying logistics and on-the-job training globally.

The company is also committed to supporting local communities and has already sponsored the Under-15 Development League for Women’s Football through a partnership with the Guyana Football Federation.

“Blue Water Shipping Guyana is a 100 percent Guyanese entity built on strong values. Blue Water Shipping Guyana will remain majority Guyanese-owned, maintaining full compliance with the local content law,” Bek said.

Offering brief remarks, Co-founder of Falcon Logistics, Jennifer Falconer, said the new venture with Blue Water Shipping was the next logical step in Falcon Logistics’ expansion and the two companies share the same values and goals.

“This unification, I am confident, will allow us to expand our reach and compete on the regional and international stage and create even more market leadership,” Falconer said.

Falconer and Marshall Mintz founded Falcon Logistics in 2013 after recognizing a unique opportunity to provide “exemplary logistic services with the highest level of integrity,” she said on Thursday.

Board Member at Blue Water Shipping, Anne Skov said that the partnership with Falcon Logistics forms a strong and dedicated team in Guyana.

“I’m especially happy that we share many of the same values, to me the values are the most important thing as the foundation of doing business together,” Shov said.
