$6.3M worth of cocaine found in curry, 2 arrested

Ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) intercepted an outgoing male passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) who was found with 13.8lbs of cocaine with a street value of $6.3 million (US$31,000).

A press release from CANU noted that the illegal drug was found in two bowls of curry that was packed inside his suitcase.

Loaknauth Persaud, 36, of Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo was destined for the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on a JetBlue Airways flight B61966.

According to CANU, further investigations led to the arrest of Manzil Ali called John Ali, 43, of Section C “D” Field Sophia.

    It is such a pity .that Mr. Persaud had to be intercepted from what might have been a good life i for him in the United States of America. I am also thinking of costs for sir ticket, now lawyer to represent him in court and finally the humiliation, publicity. and perhaps a jail sentence. It would have made such a great difference if he had acted rationally.
