Police are investigating the circumstances under which several ranks along with 40-year-old Anthony Snow and a female experienced a burning sensation in their eyes, nostrils, skin, and itching in their throats while at the Brickdam Police Station on Monday.

According to a police report, Snow and the female visited the station at about 12:30hrs to make a report of a cybercrime.

Snow, the woman, a Detective Inspector, a Corporal, a Lance Corporal, and a Constable were inside the office of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the police station when they began experiencing these symptoms.

“While he [Snow] was being interviewed by one of the ranks, he began to remove some documents which had some brown spots on them from an envelope and suddenly he complained that his hand was burning because he felt like something dripped on his hand from the ceiling,” the police report stated.

The female who was with him then complained that her throat was also burning and Snow said his skin and eyes started to burn.

“The ranks who were around also complained of feeling a burning in their nostrils and itching of the throat, followed by coughing,” the police said.

As a result, Snow was taken out of the office and was given water to wash his face but he continued to complain of the burning of his eyes and said he was unable to see.

Police said checks were made at the CID office but nothing of evidential value was found that pointed to the cause of the burning sensation and there was no indication that something was dripping from the ceiling in the office.

Nevertheless, an ambulance was summoned to take Snow and the female to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police are investigating the incident.
