Police seize over 60 pounds of ganja, four arrested

Four men are in police custody following the seizure of 29, 600 grams (65.2 lbs) of marijuana in Johanna South, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne Berbice on Monday.

The men were arrested during an intelligence-led operation at about 11:00hrs.

Three of the men, a 36-year-old self-employed male of Nigg Settlement, Corentyne Berbice; a 35-year-old hire car driver of Williamsburg Village, Corentyne, Berbice and a 36-year-old construction worker of King Street, Nigg Settlement were observed sitting under a tree next to a blue and orange tarpaulin with several bulky parcels.

During the intel operation, the ranks covertly placed themselves at strategic points in the bush, about 150 meters from the home of a 35-year-old labourer, before advancing toward the men.

“After observing the three men for over ten minutes, the ranks then advanced towards them in a tactical manner and they were taken by surprise,” the police reported.

After the ranks opened the parcels, they discovered it was leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The men were told of the offence committed, cautioned and arrested.

The ranks then proceeded to the 35-year-old labourer’s home where they also found a plastic bag containing 35 grams of marijuana. A 22-year-old who was in the house admitted ownership and he was arrested.
